Over the years I have had the privilege of obtaining hundreds of old family letters and diaries. Some of them I inherited from my mother, grandmother and cousin, while others were borrowed from relatives who allowed me to scan their original letters.

Over the years some of these letters, especially those relating to the Crawford and Comfort families, have been transcribed and are the ongoing subject of the blog entitled Crawford/Comfort Family Letters and can be found here. There are many, many more letters still waiting to be transcribed and as I go through the letters pulling out any related to the Crawford and Comfort families, I have become especially interested in letters from the 1920’s written mostly by my great-grandmother, Nancy (Keith) Brown, and her daughter, my grandmother, Lela (Brown) Mueller. That has prompted me to start this blog, which will include letters written to and from Nancy and Lela as well as other family members and friends.

A summary of each letter, in italics, has been added to the top of each letter. Where possible, footnotes have been added to identify people mentioned in the letters. Every effort has been made to transcribe these letters exactly as written, keeping the original spelling, however sometimes punctuation has been added to make the letters more readable.

Many thanks to Jean Johnson, Lela Mueller, Dorothy Langmayer, Carol Stafford and Shirley Glascott for these letters and Jay Crawford who has been my partner in transcribing the Crawford/Comfort family letters. I would also like to thank my friend and neighbor, Karen Karafa, who has enjoyed the letters so much that she has now become my partner in transcribing them.
