Dear Sister

Your letter just at hand. I am all right as Berkeley was not so badly shaken as S F[1] but I cannot begin to describe the horror of the City. No paper can begin to tell you of the terrible Earthquake and fire suffering in the City something terrible. Lose of property nearly if no quite One Billion. I was badly shaken while in bed and frightened. I’ll take a Cyclone in mine Everytime. Wish for no more quakes.
