Nancy Brown’s diary entries from July 4 – 7, 1923

Jul 4 – A very rainy 4th. Dodo, Joe and an other couple went to Palatine. Misquetoes & heat drove them home. Joe had fire works for the children. Lela, Johana, Anna & Bob went to see Lou. He seemed better, wanted to come home. Lela stayed with Joe [Johanna] again to night.

Jul 5 – Lela got home about ten. Was all tired out & nervous. Dorothy went home this P.M. Claude and Eda over a while.

Jul 6 – Girls made candy. Helen went home with Bess. A letter from Hannah telling of Claudes visit and the Ralph picnic at Bayview Gull Lake last Sunday, also of Lela Jacksons[98] sudden death last Monday.

Jul 7 – “The girls” left at 2 p.m. on Lake trip. Martha & mother down town. Robert here to mow lawn, fix vine &c. Claude and Eda here. Lela packed candy this p.m. Bob rode home with Claude & Eda. Jean went will stay all night. Bob took ten lbs candy. Mrs Lueders here a while. Potatoes came to day from Ethen. Bess the same.
