Nancy Brown’s Diary Entries from January 15 – March 23, 1921

Jan 15 – Helen[1] 7″ birthday. Had a party. Bess[2] made cake.

Jan 16 – Lela[3] & I took Ruth Atkins[4] home this eve. Bess & Dodo[5] there.

Jan 17 – Bess, Lela, children & I to Will[6] to lunch. Visited Cones. Minie[7] called, no one home.

Jan 18 – Minie phoned me. She was going to Graces[8] Ruths[9] birthday.

Jan 20 – Ethans[10] 70″ birthday. We sent him 10.00.

Jan 22 – Ed & Elsa spent evening. Lou[11] has bad arm. Minie went to Grace to day. Not very well.

Jan 23 – Claudes[12] 46″ birthday. Wills family all but Perry,[13] Ed, Elsa, Lela & family. Claude, Eda[14] & I to Bessies. Julius[15] cast with Orchestra.[16] Dodo took Helen home.

Jan 24 – Helen & I stayed to Bessies last night. I started to go see Minie. Stormed did not go.

Jan 26 25 – Bess washed. She is making silk bedspread &c for Eda. Helen sick. I went home. Dodo with me. Stayed all night.

Jan 25 26 – Al Kanberg[17] tel me. Minie passed away 5.20 A.M. I went over to Grace.

Jan 27 – Home all day. Ruth[18] & baby[19] came to Grace for mothers funeral. Lela entertained club.

Jan 28 – Helen sick. Had doctor. Claude, Eda, Bess & I attended Minies funeral. 2 P.M. Julius home this P.M.

Jan 29 – Helen better. Carrie & Willard to Bess this P.M.

Jan 30 – Lou[20] & Lela over to Geo. Friedholts[21] for dinner. Lou went to science church for first time. Claude & Eda here.

Feb 1 – Lela & Dodo downtown. Got Eda a table cloth. Dodo & Robert[22] hurt her mouth his eyes.

Feb 3 – Lou[23] went home to day from the Burg.[24] M– with Auntie.[25] Lou went down home Oct 15″. Dodo home all night.

Feb 5 – Letter from Hannah.[26] John M– is father to twin girls an other baby 16 mo. J & I were married June 1918. Lela has a party for Martha[27] to day. Aunt Kate[28] came.

Feb 6 – Harry & Taylor[29] over this P.M. Lou went science church on Kenmore Ave.

Feb 7 – Bess 40″ birthday. Helen & Jean about sick. Dr thinks threatened with whooping cough.

Feb 8 – I dont feel very good. Have quite a cold.

Feb 9 – Eda had fish day dinner for Bess her family, Aunt Kate & I there. Claude took us home. Aunt Kate stoped at home.

Feb 10 – Mrs Ritche & Martha here to lunch. Mrs R– & Lela went over to Mrs _____.

Feb 11 – Bess phoned. Went down town got her self a suit. Men broke ground for home back of us. Bess phoned. Eggs had come.

Mar 23 – Lela & Mrs Geezy cleaning pantry & kitchen.
